Overview:
Language Arts: Term 3 student assignments; a final assignment for the novel The Lightning Thief ,non - fiction literature circle/inquiry unit, research writing, presentations, creative writing, a variety of descriptive poems, classroom A/B partner talking and reporting out. Daily Learning Review covers sentence structure, grammar lessons, and punctuation.
Science: This term, students planned appropriate investigations and research strategies to answer their questions or solve problems they have identified to do with body systems.
Social Studies: Students were able to sequence images and events of personal or Canadian heritage and identified the push and pull factors that have made people emigrate from their home country and immigrate to Canada.
Math: Students worked in groups, as a class and as individuals to:
- solve problems involving decimals, fractions, and percents.
- convert between decimals, fractions, and percents and order them.
- use reasoning and logic to explore, analyze, and apply mathematical ideas.
- demonstrate and apply mental math strategies.
- solve problems with experimental probability.
- solve problems using decimals (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and order of operations).
Fine Arts: In term 3 students rotated through three different fine arts classes; working with clay and visual art, dance and beat movements, and music and rhythm playing the xylophone.
ADST
- use woodworking techniques and basic joinery using hand tools.
- program the sphero with block code.
- use hand construction/machine techniques for producing textile item.
-use technology to efficiently lay out important information in their presentations
Career
Students continued to use their leadership skills around the school while working with their buddies, lunch and office monitoring, organizing spirit activities in the school. Students looked into the pathways of a variety of careers and created a personal resume for future use.
PE
Activities in PE this term were trying out the variety of track and field stations, ultimate frisbee, disc golf, pickleball, and minor games. In health, students learned about the changes of male and female bodies throughout puberty.
French with Mme. Greenwood

French with Mme. Greenwood
The topics included:
- Body Parts - Students learned various vocabulary and songs. They also learned how to communicate when specific body parts were hurting. “J’ai mal…” To end the unit, students were challenged to program a Sphero Robot to roll to six body parts on a paper human silhouette and say the names of each body part correctly in french. This proved to be difficult task for many!
- Clothing - Students learned 18 vocabulary words for clothing. During conversational French, they were required to describe clothing items using the correct subject pronoun (je, tu, il, elle) and conjugated verb. Eg. “Tu portes un pantalon bleu.” Students wrapped up the unit with a fashion show.
